Fire Season Starts Early

Normally a view we expect to see in August, but this year we have started to see it as early as the end of March. Within easy distance of the house there have been 3 fires in a single afternoon, 2 of them easily visible from the house and one hiding behind a hill. Below is a photo of the nearest one, if you look closely you can see the helicopter dropping water over the fire.

It might not look big compared to the fires last year in Greece, but the fact that a fire can take hold so easily and so early on in the season makes me wonder what the summer is going to be like…

Taking time off

Its unusual for me to travel anywhere within Spain, we used to visit local areas while I was here on university holidays, but when I started working it became a bit more difficult to find the time. Working in the week and trying to setup my own freelance business at the weekends didn’t leave that many clear days. (more…)

Walking in Granada

On saturday we set off for a sleeply little village a few hours drive from home, tucked away in the Costa Tropic. After setting off on saturday morning we arrived in the village of Pampaniera and started looking for the guide book that was supposed to be guiding us through the country. We’d forgotten it. Plan b: Ask the hostel owners for a couple of local walks, they showed us some leaflets and we managed to workout what we thought was the route. The first part of the route involved following the route backwards…. have you ever tried to follow directions backwards? It just doesn’t work! (more…)
